Milkwall Football Club was established in 1943, this information is based on the earliest reports that we can find in sources such as the minute book, archive newspaper reports and dated team photo’s .
The Club is governed by a board of trustees these are:
Chairman: Gary Smith.
Treasurer and Secretary: Graham Grindle.
Trustees: Royston James, Steve Ross, Brett Grindle and Neil Smith.
Milkwall have 2 senior sides currently playing in the North Gloucester League. Our first team are playing in the Premier Division and our second team are playing in division 3.
Both teams are doing reasonably well, with both in the semi final of their respective hospital cups. The first team are also in the semi final of the County Cup. The good cup runs are having a negative impact on the league positions of both sides leaving them with a good few games to make up before the end of the season and not giving a true picture of their league positions.
Graham Clements is the manager of the first eleven, with Darren Woodley and Steve Kear managering the second eleven. For many years we had a youth team but as time moved on this part of the club failed to get enough boys of the same age group.
Once again in the last couple of seasons Lakers have been using the ground to play their league matches for their under 16s and under 14s, but this season they have agreed to combine with Milkwall and change their name to Milkwall this will benefit both parties. It will give the boys and their coaches a base to work from and allow them to bid for funding to enhance their requirements. This will enable 150 children associated to Milkwall to benefit from the proposed changes that are planned for the coming seasons.
Milkwall will benefit as this would provide a natural route to senior football for the under 16s who finish playing in the Gloucestershire youth league at 16.
